Perishable Cargo (PER)
Perishable cargo are goods, which may deteriorate over a given period of time or after exposure to adverse temperature, humidity or other environmental conditions.
Typical perishable goods, very often transported as cargo are:-
- flowers and plants (PEF)
- fish and seafood (PES)
- meat (PEM)
- fresh fruit and vegetables (PEP)
- hatching eggs (HEG)
- vaccines, medical supplies and live organs (LHO)

Basic rules regarding the shipments of perishable goods:

1. Perishable cargo may only be accepted for transport when it is possible that it will reach the final destination in good condition

2. Before the transport it should be checked if:
- the transport is legal according to the law in the port of origin, destination port and all transit ports
- the package is properly packed
- the package is accompanied by all requested documents
- it is not possible to endanger the aircraft, people or property in any way
- it is possible to arrange all special handling facilities such as re-icing
additional rules:
- the shipper should be informed about the latest delivery time to the airport before the take off
- all reservations must be made and confirmed

3. The shipper should provide written instructions regarding maximum acceptable duration of transportation and any special handling required. Such instructions should be put on the air waybill as well as on the packages

4. The shipper is responsible for a proper packaging according to the kind of shipment. The packing should:
- protect against folding
- keep appropriate temperature
- separate the package from other packages

5. It is forbidden to consolidate PER goods on AWB together with other goods.  Perishable goods should be sent on separate AWB

6. Each package containing perishable goods should be labeled with "PERISHABLE" labels and "This way up" labels if necessary, or with other labels

7. In the shipment documents (AWB and CM) it should be marked, what kind of perishable goods is in the package

8. The shipper is obliged to put additional information regarding storage conditions and delivery to the receiver in "handling information"

9. Health certificates and other permissions should be mentioned in "handling information" and attached to the AWB

10. Every shipment containing flowers, plants, fresh fruit or vegetables must be accompanied by a sanitary certificate issued by authorities of the country of export
