LOT starts the sale of tickets to Beijing
09.08.2007
Warsaw, 09 August 2007 – From today, you can reserve tickets on the route Warsaw – Beijing – Warsaw. The first flight to Beijing will take place on 30th March 2008. After nearly 10 years, the Polish air carrier comes back to the Chinese market. „The introduction of flights to Beijing is the first step in the expansion of the network of long-distance flights to the East”, says Piotr Siennicki, President of PLL LOT S.A. „We want to fly where our passengers would like to fly. Due to the strengthening of business contacts of Asian countries with Poland and the rest of Europe and the growing number of tourist excursions to this area, the Far East is a natural direction for LOT.”
LOT’s connection with the capital of China will be the first Polish direct air connection with Far Eastern countries in nearly 10 years. Due to the convenient geographical location of Warsaw, suitable transfer flights from Western Europe will also be possible. LOT planes will fly from Warsaw to Beijing 4 times a week – on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Return flights from Beijing to Warsaw are scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
„Our aim is also to reinforce the position of the Okęcie airport as a regional transfer port. We would like Warsaw to turn into an important hub connecting the West with the East in a few years”, says President Siennicki.
Initially, flights will be performed mainly on Boeing 767 planes. However, in the autumn of 2008, B787 Dreamliner planes will also start to operate on this route.
„Dreamliners will help us to ensure a new travel quality to our passengers. B787 planes will make it easier for us to enter Asian markets. Therefore, we are also analysing other directions. Maybe soon we will be able to introduce flights to Seoul, Hanoi or Tokyo” adds President Siennicki.
