The city of canals
Thanks to 160 canals, Amsterdam is known as the Venice of the North. The most important were created at the beginning of the seventeenth century, when the large-scale expansion of the city began. They were gathered in a system called the Grachtengorde (Canal Loop), which consisted of three main streams: the Emperor’s, Lords’ and Prince’s. Trains run regularly from Schiphol airport both on domestic and international routes. The railway station is located in the basement of the airport. Tickets can be purchased either in vending machines, located in the main lobby, as well as in the ticket offices, which are located directly at the entrance to the platforms. By train you can reach directly the city center of Amsterdam, and to almost all parts of the Netherlands. Directly from the airport you can also take the train to the German cities (for example Aachen, Bonn, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt and Munich) and Belgium (including Antwerp, Brussels and Gent). The journey between the airport and the Amsterdam center takes approximately 15 minutes.
Buses, taxis and cars
The airport can be reached by bus lines 197, 370 and a line 370 from the center and Zuid, 192 to Osdorp, Sloten / Nieuw Sloten.
The stop is opposite the arrivals hall and it is well-marked. There is also free bus Connexxion Airport Hotel Shuttle, which takes passengers to around 55 hotels in Amsterdam. Taxi rank is located near the entrance of Schiphol Plaza, a trip to the city takes about 15 minutes (similar to the train). Receptions of car rental companies are located in Schiphol Plaza directly behind the arrivals hall. At the airport there are two car parks (P1 and P2) for short stops (up to 48 hours).
Parking lots are connected to the terminal and Schiphol Plaza by indoor walkway. Parking for longer stays- more than 48 hours, is located about 4 kilometers away from the terminal. Access from the parking lot to the airport is possible by shuttle bus service.
The flight to Amsterdam
