The other rock city is Vardzia which can be an alternative plan to Uplistsikhe. Until today there has been preserved approximately 1/3 of the former complex. The rest was destroyed during the earthquake in 1283. You can visit the remains of the ancient chambers. Particularly interesting it is the part currently occupied by monks. You will also find there sensational sights including the famous monastery complex (near the border with Azerbaijan) and the monumental cathedral Alaverdi from eleventh century.

Major international airport in Georgia is located 20 km east of Tbilisi. It handles more than 620,000 passengers every year. The airport is quite large, modern and clean. It was founded in 1952. At the time when Georgia belonged to the Soviet Union it was one of the busiest airports with connections to other republics. Tbilisi airport was modernized in 2007. A new international terminal, parking and other parts of airport infrastructure were added and rebuilt. Currently, the runway is capable of handling 12 flight operations per hour. The airport is ready to handle 2.8 million passengers annually. There are 25 check-in counters.
The entire expansion project cost over 90 million dollars. Tbilisi International Airport is a modern building, which is fully adapted to serve the needs of the passengers. Highly qualified personnel guarantees a high standard of service in English language. The airport covers an area of 25 000 m².
How to reach the airport
The airport is connected to the city center by buses, trains and taxis. Taxi ranks are located in front of the terminal. At the airport there are several corporations that offer transportation to the surrounding towns, especially the capital of the country. Remember to always use the services of licensed taxis and make sure that the taximeter is turned on. Estimated travel time to the center of Tbilisi is about 20-30 minutes and the cost of such a journey is about 20 GEL.
There is also a public bus service that enables to get into town. The city bus number 37 runs to the city center between 7:00 and 19:30. A ticket for travel from the airport to the center of Tbilisi costs 0.50 GEL. If you want to get from the airport to the center of Tbilisi, the fastest way, since January 2008, is train that links the port with the Georgian villages and the capital. The station is located 70 meters from the passenger terminal. Trains run six times a day. This course takes about 20 minutes, and a ticket for one-way ride costs 0.50 GEL.
The airport has one storey passenger terminal and like at every airport there is extensive service area - cafes, restaurants, duty free shops and car rental points. There are also several banks branches, cash machines and pharmacy. Additionally it is possible to use the conference room, Wi-Fi connection and VIPs lounges. There are also facilities for disabled people and for mothers with children. The airport has also parking for 325 cars.

What to see in Tbilisi
Tbilisi is a charming town with a very rich history, full of wonderful sights, bars, clubs and restaurants. In the capital of Georgia you can spend a weekend or a few days to relax and enjoy its offer. The best place to start Tbilisi sightseeing is Gorgasalis Moedani square in the old part of Tbilisi. Around the square there are many traditional townhouses with wooden, hand-carved balconies and porches, painted in a huge range of colours. Not far from the square is the bath district called Abanotubani. This is the oldest part of the city which dates back to 1,500 years.
The most popular place in Tbilisi is Freedom Square with the statue of St. George, the patron saint of Georgia. Over the old town there is towering majestic fortress Narikala. The oldest parts of its walls are from fourth century. It is also worth to visit Mamadavitis Monasteri, which is the Monastery of St. David. It is situated on the Mtatsminda mountain, where you can admire the beautiful panorama of Tbilisi. The most recognizable street of the city is Szot Rustaveli Avenue. All the social life focuses on this street. It is full of exclusive shops and restaurants, with a numerous hotels, souvenir shops, ATMs and internet cafes.
Next stop - Kutaisi
Kutaisi is located about 200 km away from Tbilisi. In ancient times the city was the capital of Georgia. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. Historical records and Greek myths date back its origin to XVII - XV centuries BC. Kutaisi sightseeing starts in a large square with quite a monumental fountain, called the fountain of Colchis. The monument is actually very new, it was built in 2011 and consists of 30 figures, which are copies of the archaeological founding. On the square we will also see Lado Meskhishvili theatre. It was once the cultural center of the city. On a hill of the city it is also possible to see beautifully renovated Bagrati Cathedral. It was built in 1003. In the seventeenth century the large part of it was destroyed by the Turks. A few years ago it was decided to rebuild it, despite UNESCO guidelines.
Batumi is the third biggest and one of the oldest cities in Georgia. It is located on the southwestern end of the country. It is also one of the most important ports in the Black Sea, and the capital of the autonomous republic of Adjara. It is worth to start Batumi sightseeing from its port and the surrounding park. This area is a little bit crowded, but quite charming. In the port there is a nice view of the sea, ships and mountains shrouded in mist. In the park you can use the pool tables and ping-pong. There is a nice green area and shaded benches. It is a good place to rest a bit after sunbathing. The biggest attraction of Batumi is Botanical Garden. It is located by the sea, on a steep hillside garden. Supposing it is the second largest botanical garden in the world. Without any doubts this place makes a huge impression.
