It is located in north-western Hungary, approximately 80 kilometres from Budapest. Its advantage is a small depth for such large area of water. It does not exceed an average of 3-4 meters. Shallow water heats up quickly, so it is always pleasant, and the conditions for swimming are good already in the spring months. North shore of Lake Balaton is quite varied - this is where you can explore the Tihany peninsula with picturesque Benedictine abbey and the nearby vineyards.
Currently Balaton is experiencing its renaissance - older tourists return here driven by sentiment and younger are discovering this very beautiful corner of Hungary. National Park Aggtelek
Aggtelek National Park was created on the border of Hungary and Slovakia. The biggest tourist attraction is the most famous of them, 26 kilometres cave Baradla. In the park there are two small villages Aggtelek and Jósvafő. How to reach the airport
Public transport is very well organized. Passengers are picked up by bus 200 directly from Terminals 1 and 2 to the final metro station Köbánya-Kispest. Buses run frequently from early morning until late at night. Another line, which connects the airport with the metro station Kőbánya-Kispest is bus 23. From the metro station, you can take a train, which in 20 minutes reaches Deák Ferenc Square in the city centre. Airport can be also reached from the station Western Railway Station in Budapest. The journey takes less than 30 minutes and it costs only 300 HUF. The airport has also its own carrier Airport Minibus.
Passengers can reach every destination they want in Budapest. The drivers know the city well and will always choose the shortest and fastest route. One-way ticket for one person is approximately 2490 HUF, return ticket - 4390 HUF. Taxis are available at the taxi stand, but their fares can be unregulated. A passenger should make sure that the taximeter is turned on. If the taxi does not have a taximeter, you need to determine the cost of the journey before you start driving. Usual price of journey to the centre is around 3000-3500 HUF.
Airport consists of three terminals: 1 open in the 50's and the terminal 2A and B and also cargo terminal. Terminals 2A and 2B are located next to each other within the walking distance, while the transportation to terminal 1 is possible using the airport bus. What to see in Esztergom
The city on the Danube was founded in 960 and it was the first capital of the country. It is worth to visit there restored Arpad’s castle, with museum and twelfth-century chapel. On the hill there is the basilica, which is an example of the Hungarian classicism. It is the largest building of its kind in the country, widely recognized as a symbol of the city. It is 118 meters long, 40 meters wide, and its dome rises to a height of 100 meters. After that tourists often walk down to Vizivaros, which is the Water Town, a district situated on the Danube, at the foot of the hill. It is possible to take a nice walk here through the cobbled streets, stairs, squares of the historic buildings. You can also hide from the heat under many trees and greenery in general. In the Museum of Christianity, you can admire the richest in the country collection of sacred art.
What to see in Szentendre
Szentendre is located just 20 kilometres from the border of Budapest, at the Danube Bend. This beautiful town was founded by Serbs who escaped from the Turks at the end of the seventeenth century and found a shelter here. In Szentendre they established there bishopric and started to produce wine. After Serbs the town was occupied by artists. Many great Hungarians artists had their workshops here. Houses in town are clean and colourful. The town itself, despite the invasion of tourists during the season, has the charm of the small province.
