The history and location
Rzeszow is located on the southeast of Poland on the river Wislok. Just 100 km away from Rzeszow it is possible to cross the border with Slovakia and Ukraine. The first settlers in this region appeared in Neolithic times. The origins of the city that we know today dates back to 1354 year. At this time the city received privilege granted by King Casimir the Great. Market Square and a Castle
The city is rather small, but it does not mean that there is nothing to do. On the contrary it has a lot of interesting places to visit. It is worth to start Rzeszow sightseeing from the Old Town. This part of the city includes market square and several streets in its close neighbourhood. Within these limits, the city functioned since 1354 up to the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Rzeszow Town Hall is one of the most famous buildings in the city. It was built in the end of sixteenth century. Between 1867 and 1898 the building was reconstructed in Neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance style. To this day it remains the main City Hall building, which houses the headquarters of the Mayor and the City Council. Lubomirski Castle is, along with the Town Hall, one of the most distinctive historic buildings Rzeszow. Both of them were built in the end of sixteenth century by the current owner of the city. Today it serves as a the seat of the county court and till 1981 it was also a prison. Within the castle there is also Lubomirski summer palace.
Underground Tourist Route and other attractions
Under the surface of market square there is a very unique underground tourist route with a length of 369 m, including 40 cellars, located on three floors. The cellars date back to the XV-XX centuries. In the past a variety of goods were stored here, basements were also a refuge for the inhabitants during wars and invasions.
The fourteenth-century Farny church in Rzeszow is also a very interesting building to see. Going further there is Bernardine Monastery.
This seventeenth-century complex is obligatory place to see while visiting Rzeszow. The city hides also Jewish history in two Synagogues: old one from the seventeenth century and new one of the eighteenth century (today it serves as an art gallery). Rzeszow is also a very green city. Many parks and squares, as well as the route along the river make this city a perfect place for long walks and peaceful relax in the nature.
The international Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport is located 10 km from the city center. In 2012, the airport served 562 000 passengers and it ranked it on 7th place in Poland in terms of number of passengers. It is situated in little village called Jasionka and this is where its name came from. It is possible to reach around nine destinations from Rzeszow airport into several different countries. Airport beginnings and growth
At the beginning Rzeszow Airport was built for military purposes by Nazi Germany in 1940. The first runway in Jasionka had length of 1200 meters and width of 40 meters. At the end of the war, after Germans left it completely devastated, the Russians took charge of it. Finally in 1949 the Polish Civil Aviation Committee of National Liberation rebuilt it and made it useful for transport again. In 1959 LOT took over the airport- it was a starting point for upgrading it, adding new runways and other facilities.
However, the biggest changes began only in the late 90’s. The charter flights to Georgia and Azerbaijan were added and LOT introduced flights to Warsaw again. Currently Rzeszow airport is one of the fastest growing Polish airports. In 2012 the new modern passenger terminal, along with new control tower and taxi stands have been introduced. Now each year it handles more passengers.
How to reach the airport
The airport is located very close to the A4 motorway so it is very easy to reach it by car. Parking is free and it is designed for cars and buses. It is located on the north side, in the immediate vicinity of the existing terminal. There are also car rental companies. Very convenient is also a taxi service. You can reach the center of Rzeszow for around 40-50 PLN. Taxi rank is located in front of the terminal. It is possible to pay by credit cards.
It is also possible to reach the airport and city center by public transportation. There is a special line L. Timetable is adjusted to the flight schedule. The bus stop is directly in front of the passenger terminal, and it stops in the town center close to the railway station and bus station. Tickets can be purchased on the bus before departure. There is also yellow line number 224 and 225. Ticket prices are around 1.5 - 3.5 PLN, they can be purchased directly from the driver.
Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport is adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. There are also car rental station, parking for passengers and chapel (located on the first floor in front of the elevator) open during airport opening hours. It is also possible to take a port in organized trip at the airport and see the observation desk, runway and terminal. For people who come to Rzeszow for work there are also conference facilities. If the conference rooms are booked completely the VIP Lounge doubles. It is possible to use a fax, phone, printer and also rooms with projector and other required equipment.
Rzeszow is growing very fast and along with it the accommodation base. There are numerous options to choose from in the city center and also a little bit further near the exit roads. It can give you the comfort of living in a quiet and peaceful place, but still close to the lively city.

Hotel accommodation base in Rzeszow consists mostly of medium standard facilities. Usually there can be found 3 star hotels in reasonable prices and corresponding standard. There are also several 4 star hotels often with conference centres and restaurants. Their quality of those places is quite good considering the fact, that they often belong to big European chains. Most of them are located in the city center, but there are some situated near the exit roads. There are also some luxury hotels situated in the Market Square in Old Town. The 5 star facility consist of two restaurants, beautifully arranged interior, parking lot and very interesting Rzeszow Old Brewery. Those high-end hotels usually offer very comfortable rooms with great view of the city and standard services like Internet connection, air conditioning, mini bar, work desk and much more.
Alternative options of accommodation
If you look for something else than a hotel a good alternative will be renting a private apartment. There is a quite large offer of them in Rzeszow. They are usually in very high standard and you can find fully equipped ones. This way it is possible to cook in the apartment and save some money on dining outside. This kind of accommodation is perfect for bigger groups, as well as families. In addition to the hotels and apartments in the city there are also cheap hostels and dormitories for students, teenagers and generally travellers who look for a budget and modest accommodation.
