Switzerland is a picturesque place, with incredible mountains and lakes. The country is famous not only from chocolate, watches and banks, but also from the best ski resorts in the world. LOT Polish Airlines offers cheap plane tickets to Switzerland to its two major airports. For such a small country it is very convenient that you can choose between those destinations. Beside skiing in winter it is great to visit Switzerland in spring and summer. During this time nature comes to life and everything is amazingly green. Additionally there are not many tourists at this period.
If you think about visiting Swiss Alps a good idea is to start from Interlaken, situated between Thuner and Briezer lakes. This is the winter capital of the country, with numerous monuments and the possibility of joining river cruise or a paragliding flight. At the top of Harder Kulm, overlooking Interlaken there is a new viewing platform. It gives the opportunity of admiring wonderful views of the Alpine scenery: three famous peaks - the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and lakes of Thun and Brienz. Zermatt is one of the most famous resorts of the world, located at an altitude of 1620 meters above the sea level at the foot of the Matterhorn. The walls of the Matterhorn are a challenge even for experienced climbers.
What is interesting the cars and other vehicles are not allowed to enter the town. Zermatt offers many opportunities for mountain lovers, including climbing, skiing and hiking. Especially worth visiting is Ebenalp peak, rising on 1644 meters above the sea level. You can easily get there by cable car from Wasserauen. From the top you can admire the breathtaking panorama of the lush green slopes. In Ebenalp there are several trekking and climbing routes.
Bridges in Lucerne
Lucerne is more like a seaside resort than a big city squeezed in the middle of the country. The city is located on one of the bays of Lucerne lake and attracts with an exceptional views of Alps. To explore the old town you have to reserve about two hours. Bridges in Lucerne are among the most peculiar medieval monuments and a symbol of the city. You must walk through the famous wooden Kapellbrücke Bridge, which is one of the oldest covered bridge in Europe. Just outside the walls of the Gothic St. Francis church there is a medieval market. There are stalls with swords and costumes from the old period, with an armored workshops, which transfer you to the medieval times.
Although Switzerland is mostly covered in mountainous landscape, it also amazes with beautiful cities. Zurich is a city of bankers, located on Zurich Lake and the Limmat river. It is often called the city of fountains, with around 1,100 active ones. Zurich is one of the best organized cities in the world, but at the same time also the most expensive. The symbol of Switzerland is another city- Geneva. You can find here the largest fountain in the world Jet d'Eau, gushing directly to Geneva Lake. Definitely worth seeing is the famous flower clock in the English park. Lausanne combines the features of a big city with the typical holiday resorts. It is known from many galleries and museums, as well as beautiful parks and gardens.
LOT Polish Airlines offers flights to Switzerland to Kloten in Zurich and Cointrin in Geneva. Despite the fact that Switzerland is a rather small country, it has two major airports that both support LOT planes. The third important port is the EuroAirport Basel.
International Airport is located 4 kilometers north of Geneva. It is the second largest amongst Switzerland airports. It is a modern and well organized airport, which handles around 12 million passengers every year. Very convenient for passengers is a division of airports into two sectors - Swiss and French. There is one multi-level passenger terminal, which offers many services and facilities. Passengers can take advantage of a bank, ATMs, currency exchange, Wi-Fi connection, bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, hairdresser services, showers, solarium and post office.
How to reach the airport
The communication system at the airport is well developed. Passengers can use taxi services, however, this is the most expensive way to reach the city center. Transfer from the airport to the city center costs approximately 30-35 CHF depending on traffic, time of day and number of passengers. The airport has also a railway station with connections all over Switzerland and Europe. All trains stop at the railway station in the city center - Geneva Cornavin station. The journey between the airport and the city center takes only 6 minutes. Trains leave every 12 minutes.
It is also possible to reach several destinations by buses, which are very convenient . Buses stop is just outside the airport. The small distance between the airport and the city center and friendly routes for cyclists make the bicycle trip an interesting alternative for reaching the airport. LOT flight between Warsaw and Geneva take 2 hours 10 minutes.
Another airport served by LOT is Zurich Airport, formerly known as Zurich-Kloten. It is the most important airport in Switzerland and one of the largest in Europe- it handles almost 25 million passengers every year.
It is conveniently located 10 kilometers from the city center. Zurich-Kloten Airport covers an area of about 800 hectares. At the airport there are 2 terminals which are connected by underground railway for passengers. In both terminals there is a wide variety of services and facilities. Travelers can take advantage of bank branches, currency exchange, post office, wireless internet, numerous restaurants, cafes, bars, shopping center, luggage storage, medical center (with dental services!), pharmacy, rooms for mother and children, the chapel, bicycle rental and much more.
It is also worth to take a part in a trip at the airport or go to the observation deck, while waiting for a plane.
The airport is connected to the town and surrounding villages by 11 bus lines. The bus terminal is located behind the parking fields P2 and P3. Departures take place every 10 up to 60 minutes depending on the direction. Access to the airport from the city center by taxi takes about 15 minutes and costs around 35 Euros. Taxis stop at terminals 1 and 2. It is also possible to reach many destinations by trains. Swiss railway station are at the lowest level of the airport. Trains depart every 10 minutes to the main station in Zurich, the journey takes 10 minutes.
Switzerland main cities
In Switzerland, we can find unique mountains and lakes. The best ski resorts are one of the most popular in the world and attract fans of winter sports from all over the world. In addition, in Switzerland you can visit many beautiful cities. Two of them can be reached by LOT Polish Airlines. It is quite easy to find flights to Switzerland at very reasonable prices.
Geneva is the most expensive city in Switzerland and one of the most expensive in the world. It is a financial city, where many international organizations have their headquarters. At the same time you can feel peaceful atmosphere and clean air. Geneva is in fact beautifully situated on the shores of Geneva Lake and on all sides it is surrounded by mountains. Symbol of the city is Jet d'eau- fountain at the shores of Lake Geneva. On the right bank there are many large hotels and numerous restaurants.
The old town with shopping district is the heart of Geneva. The most important square in old town is Bourg-de-Four, where you can relax in cafes and interesting shops. A little bit further you can visit St. Peter Cathedral. It is really worth to climb to the tower, where you can admire a really lovely view of city lake with mountains in the background. Heading towards the lake, you will reach the green - Jardin anglais. In this beautiful place you can see the floral clock. Switzerland is associated with clocks. This is why you cannot miss Patek Philippe Museum, with a wonderful collection of clocks and wristwatches.
Basel and Lausanne
Basel aspires to be the cultural capital of Switzerland. Museums and cultural attractions are the reasons why many people decide to visit this city. There are not so many banks, as in other Swiss cities. It is located on the border of three countries. Basel is undoubtedly the center of art, music and architecture in Switzerland. It is also the oldest university center and a city with the highest density of museums. Lausanne is a medium-sized city in Switzerland, located in the French speaking part, on Geneva Lake. One of the most valuable monuments of Lausanne is built between the twelfth and thirteenth century Gothic Cathedral of Notre-Dame. The city has an original narrow streets with tight, characteristic architecture. The picturesque old town is mostly traffic-free. Narrow streets with cafes and boutiques dominate the image of the medieval city center.
