In the very heart of Kraków, at All Saints’ Square, a unique nativity scene has appeared. Sponsored by LOT, it combines the centuries-old tradition of Kraków’s nativity craftsmanship with our aviation heritage.

Centuries-old Kraków tradition meets LOT’s aviation heritage

On December 9, the nativity scene was officially unveiled in the presence of Aleksander Miszalski – Mayor of Kraków, Michał Fijoł – President of LOT Polish Airlines, Grzegorz Soszyński – President of the Kraków Tourism Alliance, Dr. Michał Niezabitowski – Director of the Kraków Museum, and Carolina Pietyra – Director of the Kraków Festival Bureau. The project has been included in the “Around the Nativity – A Walk through Kraków” route.

The navy-and-silver color scheme and aviation motifs symbolize the blend of tradition with the idea of travel and connecting people. LOT’s Kraków nativity scene brings together the finest elements of our history and identity: centuries-old tradition and proud aviation heritage.

The project was created by Marzena Dłużniewska—a continuation of a family nativity-crafting tradition. For her, creating miniature Kraków churches is not only an art form but also a deeply personal heritage.

Krakow is a city where art is present at almost every turn, and the attachment of Krakow's residents to tradition is known throughout Poland. One of the symbols of the connection between tradition and art is the annual Christmas nativity scene competition. We are delighted that, as the national carrier, we can support initiatives that nurture Polish heritage and promote it around the world

- Ewa Lampart, Director of the Marketing and Corporate Communications Bureau at LOT Polish Airlines

From generation to generation

Since the 19th century, Kraków nativity scenes have been created by local craftsmen as extraordinary miniature worlds—full of towers, domes, and Christmas scenes. Today, this tradition is inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and stands as one of Kraków’s most beautiful symbols.

LOT’s Kraków nativity scene is a unique interpretation of this heritage. Its towers reference St. Mary’s Basilica, St. Andrew’s Church, and the Bernardine Church, while the silvery dome evokes St. Dominic’s Chapel. At the center is the scene of Jesus’ birth, surrounded by figures in traditional Kraków costumes as well as in our crew uniforms.

This symbolic blending of worlds—tradition and modernity—is undoubtedly what has shaped our brand for years. Navy and silver, LOT’s colors, intertwine with hues representing the countries we connect with Poland every day.
