The history of Star Alliance livery on LOT aircraft

It was the Boeing 737-500 (SP-LKE) that first took to the skies in Star Alliance livery. In doing so, it symbolically marked the beginning of a new chapter in LOT’s history, associated with joining the alliance’s global network.

A year later, it was joined by the Embraer 170 (SP-LDC), which flew in the distinctive Star Alliance livery with the alliance’s star until 2015.

In 2005, another aircraft joined the alliance livery—the second Embraer 170 (SP-LDK), which—interestingly—remains in this livery to this day*.

A special place in this story is held by the wide-body Boeing 767-300ER. It was the only LOT aircraft in Star Alliance livery operating long-haul flights. Thanks to it, the alliance’s distinctive star regularly appeared at major airports in the United States, such as Chicago O’Hare and New York JFK. The aircraft was retired in 2013, making way for the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Following the retirement of the Boeing 767 and one of the Embraer 170 aircraft, the Star Alliance livery was given to an Embraer 175 (SP-LIO), which continues to operate European routes to this day.

Fun fact: the Star Alliance logo is also featured on this aircraft’s winglets.

At the end of November 2025, another aircraft in Star Alliance livery joined the LOT Polish Airlines fleet—a Boeing 737 MAX 8 (SP-LVF), known in radio communication as “Victor Foxtrot.” It became the sixth aircraft in LOT’s history to wear the Star Alliance colors and operates short- and medium-haul flights.

The alliance brings together 26 carriers from around the world, and although each airline has its own visual identity, the Star Alliance livery remains consistent and easily recognizable worldwide.
