Leisure time

Although there are disputes on which part of Prague is more interesting - the left-bank one with the Hradčany and Malá Strana (Little Quarter), or the right-bank one with the Old Town and Jozefov, in fact each district of Prague has something to offer to tourists, and both parts are connected…

Restaurants

Every restaurant in Prague serves a duck with cabbage, but it is a dish addressed mostly to tourists. The inhabitants of Prague choose rather booths with sausages where you can taste the utopenec z cibulí a octem, a marinated smoked sausage with onion. Another local delicacy is the pražská…

Shopping

In Prague, there is a lot of shopping centres and retail passages.  The Palladium at Namesti Republiky 1 is a very big, four-storey shopping centre that includes more than 200 stores and more than 30 restaurants and cafes. The Nový Smíchov, Plzeňská 8, is slightly smaller;…

Helpful info

The main means of the public transport in Prague is the underground, whose network is supplemented by trams and buses. The centre is very pleasant, so it is best to sightsee on foot. However, if you do not like long walks, you can travel by trams. It is worth buying a 24-hour ticket (CZK 110) or a 3-day…

Active time

The best place for active rest in Prague is the former farm between Břevnov a Motol at Tomanova 1/1028. The area called Ladronka is 2 kilometres long and it is suitable for practising sports, such as biking or rollerblading. A track for roller-skaters built here begins by the Strahov stadium, and ends…

Prague is the largest city of the Czech Republic and, at the same time, the capital city of the country, situated on the Veltava river. The city has the population of more than 1.2 million people and it is the most significant administrative, cultural, academic, industrial and tourist centre in the country. The city avoided war damages, as a result of which there is an exceptional accumulation of monuments from several epochs here.

They say that Prague is a city combined out of four or even five smaller cities. So, you should not be surprised if you find here several market squares or town halls. You can also visit many baroque churches and colourful Renaissance tenement houses, as well as walk on the famous Gothic bridge over Veltava.

The historic town centre was entered onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. To see the most important places in Prague, you need just a few days. Prague is very popular among tourists, and every year it is visited by nearly 4 million visitors; it is also expensive. Therefore, it is good to think earlier about what you want to visit, and plan your expenses. However, it is worth stopping the sightseeing for a while and have a cold beer in one of hundreds of beer houses, that is to do exactly what the inhabitants of Prague like the most! When you decide to buy a beer, the national drink of Czechs, remember not to ask for a portion of raspberry syrup or a straw, since this can give an astonished waiter a heart attack.
