Owing to its location near the border as well as the proximity of the Baltic Sea, the third-largest city in Poland is an important centre of maritime economy, with a port, shipyards and companies. The IT industry also develops very quickly here.

In Szczecin there are star-shaped squares constructed on a geometrical plan with triangular construction parcels.
