Milan – the best attractions for a weekend!

Now that you have had some aesthetic thrills, it is time for… another feast for your senses. You can now delve into the world of consumerism, which you will easily find in the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, an immensely luxurious commercial gallery. All the world's top clothing brands have their boutiques there. Even if you opt out of shopping, the complex's pleasant 19th century architecture is worth a glance. When you stand at the gallery's central point, the octagonal square, raise your eyes and have a look at the 47 m high glass dome.

Leaving the gallery you will get on the Piazza della Scala, a square at which one of the world's most famous opera houses stand. Contrary to expectations and somehow in defiance of the institution's reputation, the building of La Scala is surprisingly unimpressive. One could say it is modest. If you are an art lover, make sure you don't miss the evening performance.

The vast Sempione park is filled by an enormous castle and various attractions of Milan that meet different needs. If you want to know the city's history, then this is the perfect place. If you want to have a rest from the hustle and bustle of the city among some greenery, then it is an excellent choice, too! The castle, which is so big that it would not fit in Kraków's Market Square, is home to a museum with several collections. You must see at least some of them.

In Milan, it is impossible not to visit the 15th century Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. In the adjacent monastery, you will find probably the most famous fresco in the world - the Last Supper painted by Leonarda da Vinci in 1495-97. 

In this area the city will show you a completely different face. It will be artistic, atmospheric, and a bit hipster. There are lots of interesting bars, shops with art supplies, antique bookshops, and small art galleries. There is also one large gallery – Pinacoteca Brera, one of the most important in the world.  If you love painting, you disappear there for long hours.

Milan means big fashion. One the capitals of the world's fashion! The city is home to all the world's leading fashion houses (Dolce&Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Gucci, Dior and Chanel, Armani), and what is worn by the richest of the Earth is decided in the so-called Fashion Quarter, also known as the Golden Square. The area is elegant, luxurious and expensive, with shop windows resembling works of art.

Milan is also a world of finance and the economic capital of Italy. Big money is made mainly in the business district, which is packed with interesting office buildings. Some of them are nice examples of modern architecture, e.g. Bosco Verticale (a vertical forest) with balconies overflowing with trees and shrubs.

Naviglio, a district of canals, has a unique atmosphere. You can feel like in "true Italy" there. Life going on at its two canals, stilled filled with water, is completely different than in the other districts of the city. Buildings are low, a bit provincial, and there is peace all around. The skyscrapers and rush of the big city are far away, replaced by tu atmospheric bars and artists, and various vendors at weekends. Visit the place to have a romantic evening!
