How to transport an urn with ashes on a LOT flight?

You can carry an urn with ashes – both human and animal – in the airplane cabin as carry-on baggage, keeping it under your care. After booking your ticket on the website, you must notify us of your intention to transport an urn by contacting our Contact Center.

We require you to have a cremation certificate (for human and animal ashes) and a death certificate (for human ashes only; we accept a copy of the document).

At check-in, please inform the airport staff that you have an urn in your carry-on baggage.

Remember that as a passenger, you are responsible for carrying the required documents and for complying with the regulations of the countries you are traveling through.

Requirements for transporting an urn by plane

  • The urn must be made of materials such as wood, plastic, cardboard or ceramic and must be free of lead. Many biodegradable urns are labeled "flight ready",' which makes it easier to pass through security checks.
  • The urn must be properly sealed and stamped.
  • The urn can be carried within your free carry-on baggage allowance, provided it meets the size and weight limits. This means you can either place it inside your carry-on bag or carry it on its own instead of a carry-on bag. You may also bring a small personal item as part of your ticket allowance.

Please note that urns must be able to pass through airport X-ray scanners. If an urn does not meet the requirements, it will not be possible to transport it in the cabin.
