LOT the punctuality leader in Europe
publication date: June 20, 2023
According to a report by Cirium, a leader in the aviation analytics industry, in April 2023 LOT ranked first in terms of punctuality among all airlines in Europe. This is the result of the work of many experts in the commercial and operational areas.
LOT in first place
In April 2023, our planes made 8100 flights, of which as many as 89.25% of flights were made with a maximum 15-minute delay from the planned schedule. Thus, we became the punctuality leader among European airlines. In second place was Spain's Iberia, achieving 87.28% with 13,929 connections. Norwegian Air Shuttle rounded out the podium with 87.15%, followed closely by Austrian national carrier Austrian and Finland's Finnair.
What does flight punctuality depend on?
Regardless of the efforts and work put into scheduling flight operations, there are still many factors (including those beyond the carriers' control) that cause delays. These mainly include:
- restrictions caused by restrictions at airports
- airspace restrictions
- adverse weather conditions
- technical defects
- overbooking
- prolonged ground handling (loading/unloading of luggage)
- waiting for transit passengers
- the need to withdraw the passenger and his luggage from the flight
Many departments work for LOT's high punctuality rate. We make every effort to minimize irregularities. Our work requires decision-making, gathering the necessary information from all areas involved, quickly analyzing and combining facts - and, as a result, finding non-standard solutions. We strive to minimize the effects of irregularities and make decisions that are good for both the Company and passengers.
