Transit Visa - Flights with transfer in Poland
Do I need a transit visa?
A transit visa (type A) is generally not required to stay in the airport's transit zone. However, it is necessary for citizens of certain countries*: Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Cuba, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka.
Important update (effective from July 12, 2025)
Passengers traveling with a national visa (type D) are not allowed to transit through Poland. Even if you're not leaving the airport, this type of visa is no longer valid for transit. Check your visa type before booking your flight.
*Remember, a transit visa (type A) does not allow you to leave the airport transit zone.
Can I leave the airport during my transfer?
Leaving the airport (transit zone) is possible in the following cases:
- You are a citizen of a European Union/Schengen Area country.
- You are a citizen of a visa-exempt country. Check if you need a visa with Sherpa! (opens in a new tab)
- You hold a Schengen visa (type C) or a national visa (type D).
