Gauja National Park, an hour’s drive from Riga, is a treat for lovers of nature and history. It hosts over 500 historical and cultural monuments – forts, stone castles, churches. Those who seek excitement absolutely must visit the castle chambers in Kies. The medieval castle with its two parks and winding cobbled streets are going to make you fall in love with its romantic atmosphere. A visit to the secret underground bunker in Līgatne, constructed as a nuclear shelter, brings opportunities for memorable experiences. The longest ski slopes in Latvia are located near the town of Kies - in the Ozolkalns ski and recreation center. It includes five slopes for new as well as advanced skiers and snowboarders. Latvia’s preserved natural resources provide a beautiful view of the Gauja Valley.

During your tour of the Baltic capitals, makes sure to have a taste of Latvian craft beers, Riga sprats, marinated herring with cottage cheese and potatoes or bread soup. Specialties of Lithuanian cuisine include mainly Cepeliny or potato dumplings. They are traditionally served with meat, sour cream and bacon, but there are also vegetarian versions are filled with cottage cheese and topped with sour cream. Must see is also a museum dedicated to M.K. Čiurlionis, a famous Lithuanian painter, writer and composer. Is situated just outside of Vilnius. The love letters he wrote to his wife are filled with symbols, music and love. Many of them are available to read at the Memorial Museum in Druskininkai. An inspiring place, filled with love and history is the perfect destination for a weekend trip.
