Holidays in Slovakia – how to spend your time in an interesting way
If you love mountains, holidays is Slovakia will be like dream come true for you. The views, contact with nature, overcoming your own weaknesses, fabulous caves – you will find all this just across the Polish border.
The Tatras
The Tatra Mountains undoubtedly top the list of Slovak attractions. Just look at them – they are bound to amaze you endlessly and you will be unable to take your eyes off them. Besides, they offer limitless opportunities to spend your time actively. Naturally, Vysoké Tatry, of the High Tatras, are the most beautiful part. They have the highest peaks, and the landscapes there are characteristic of high mountains, with jagged mountain ridges. In terms of surface, Nízke Tatry, or the Low Tatras, occupy the largest area. In both cases, there are dozens of fabulous tourist routes which you can walk for many days. A lot of tourists decide to climb Rysy, the highest peak of Poland, along an easier approach route on the Slovak side.
Tatranská Lomnica
If your holidays in Slovakia are linked with mountains, but you don't feel like making too much effort, you don't need to worry! Modern solutions will come to your assistance. The town of Tatranská Lomnica, an excellent and well-organised resort, offers you a cableway which will take you first to the Skalnaté Pleso lake, and then on to Lomnica itself (2633 m a.s.l.). The views, emotions and adrenaline rush guaranteed! It is worth to come to Tatranská Lomnica also in winter. You can expect some breathtaking views also then, but if you are into winter sports, the local infrastructure will meet even the highest of your requirements.
Belianska Cave
Slovakia is a land of fabulous caves. Among the most beautiful ones, and popular among tourists, is Belianska in the High Tatras. Discovered in the late 19th century, it was almost immediately opened to the public due to its true beauty! Also, it was the second cave in Europe to be fitted with electric lighting. Your eyes will be delighted by the intricate stalagmite formations (of which the most wonderful ones are in the hall by the telling name "Palm Hall") and scenic small lakes. Be well prepared though – the temperature in the cave does not get higher than 6.5 Celsius even on a hot day.
Slovak Paradise
If you are seeking paradise, you will find it in Slovakia! The marvellous land named Slovak Paradise seems to be a substitute of the desired Eden. It is a national park in the Slovak Ore Mountains (a part of the Western Inner Carpathians) that includes a Karst plateau, offering you ravines, gorges, intricate rocks, caves and rushing streams with watersheds. Whether you are fit as a butcher's dog or lead a rather sedentary lifestyle – you will easily find a suitable route that can give you lots of various experiences.
On Slovakia's wine trail
Slovakia hardly brings any associations with wine to your mind, does it? Not surprisingly, it wasn't a popular industry until recently, although the country's wine-making tradition dates back several hundred years. However, enotourism is slowly on the rise there, so you must visit the picturesque vineyards in the Little Carpathians. In addition to splendid views, idyllic villages and rich folk culture, you will find good wineries where you can have a delicious time. Multitude of Slovak attractions in one place!
