Women traveling while pregnant

Traveling by air during pregnancy is generally considered safe if your pregnancy is progressing without complications. However, due to the specific conditions associated with air travel, we recommend consulting your doctor before making travel plans. Before your journey, please verify you are familiar with any medical documentation requirements and complete the necessary forms, if applicable.

When is a medical certificate required during pregnancy?

Whether you need to provide medical documentation before your flight depends on the stage and course of your pregnancy:

  • Pregnancy up to 32 weeks (single pregnancy with no complications): you do not need to complete a medical form. However, we recommend carrying your maternity record or pregnancy booklet with you.

  • Pregnancy beyond 32 weeks: you must provide a medical certificate completed by your doctor using the MEDIF (Medical Information Form).

  • Multiple pregnancy or pregnancy with complications: a completed MEDIF form is required regardless of the stage of pregnancy.

What is the MEDIF form and how do I submit It?

MEDIF (Medical Information Form) is a medical certificate required by airlines for passengers who, due to their medical condition, may need special assistance or care during the flight.

Document validity and submission deadlines

  • Domestic and international flights: the MEDIF form must be completed by your attending physician no more than 14 days before departure. If your return flight takes place within 14 days of the document's issue date, the same certificate remains valid for your return journey. If you are staying longer, you will need to obtain a new certificate for your return flight.
  • Flights to/from the United States: the MEDIF form must be issued no more than 10 days before departure. A new certificate is not required for the return flight.

How do I submit the form to LOT Polish Airlines?

Please submit the completed MEDIF form at least 72 hours before departure. If your booking was made through a travel agency or another intermediary, please contact the ticket issuer so they can forward the MEDIF form on your behalf.
