Travel Insurance

If the insured person purchased the cancellation insurance, then in the event of the following occurrences PZU will reimburse travel costs incurred by the insured person that are not recoverable as a result of travel cancellation i.e. purchase of a flight ticket (including a return ticket), organised leisure time, accommodation, car rental:

• accident, sudden illness, death of the insured person/travel companion or their relatives,
• pregnancy complication diagnosed by a specialist doctor,
• burglary or damage caused by fortuitous events at the place of residence of the insured person/travel companion,
• the insured person/travel companion is compelled to appear before the administrative authorities of Poland or of the country of permanent residence,
• termination of the employment contract the insured person/travel companion.
• Documented theft or loss of travel-essential documents (identity card, passport, entry visa, driver's license).

The insurance also extends to the risk of cancellation of a return trip if the insured person is, for medical reasons, required to remain abroad after the scheduled date of return and if they cannot use the original return ticket. PZU reimburses the costs of purchase of a return ticket incurred by the insured person. The detailed scope and exclusions are set forth in the General Terms and Conditions of Insurance.  

The travel insurance is composed of 11 insurance elements:

1. insurance of medical and repatriation expenses in the event of a sudden illness or accident during travel; PZU will arrange and pay for: treatment abroad, transport from the accident site to a doctor or hospital, even from abroad to the place of residence, including a corpse to the place of burial in Poland, search and rescue operation in the event of becoming missing in the mountains, on land and on water, the cost of a guardian for the duration of travel, and will reimburse the insured person for medical expenses incurred abroad, e.g. the costs of purchase of medications prescribed by a doctor abroad
2. hospital benefit insurance in the event of a sudden illness or accident the insured person is hospitalised during their travel, PZU will pay them a hospital benefit
3. delay of a scheduled flight or resignation from travel PZU will pay out a benefit for each full 6h of a delay of the scheduled flight for which the insured person has purchased a ticket, arising solely from a change of the scheduled departure time, and will reimburse unused travel expenses incurred by the insured person if they resigned from the travel due to a delay of the scheduled flight for which they have purchased a ticket, provided that the delay is at 24h compared to he scheduled departure time and arises from a change of the departure time
4. missed flight insurance PZU will cover additional travel expenses incurred by the insured person until the next possible departure to their destination if they missed their flight due to a car failure or accident, including taxis, or a delay of a means of public transport 
5. travel curtailment insurance PZU will reimburse the insured person for the irrecoverable expenses they incurred on the period for which their organised leisure was curtailed, and for the costs of transport on the return trip if the curtailment took place due to: • and accident, a sudden illness, or death of the insured person, travel companion or a close relative of the closed person or travel companion • damage at the place of residence caused by a fortuitous event, provided that it was absolutely necessary for the insured person or the travel companion to attend legal or administrative actions • the insured person or the travel companion are compelled to appear before the administrative authorities of the Republic of Poland or of the country of permanent residence, except where summoned by military authorities
6. travel baggage insurance PZU will pay out compensation in the event of a loss, destruction or damage of baggage during travel as a result of: a fortuitous event, a rescue operation carried out in connection with a fortuitous event, an accident in land, water or air transport, theft, burglary, robbery, accident, sudden illness or a sudden deterioration of health when the insured person was unable to take care of their travel baggage. If the baggage reaches the place of stay of the insured person with a delay of at least 6 hours in relation to the scheduled date, PZU will cover the costs incurred on the purchase of basic necessities, such as: clothing, toiletries, medications, and mobility aids
7. passport, ID card, driving licence insurance in the event of a theft, loss or damage of documents, PZU will arrange for assistance and cover the costs of: • providing information on the necessary steps to obtain replacement documents • issuing replacement documents necessary to enable the insured person to return, including the charge for issuing such documents • costs of travel incurred in order to obtain these documents
8. cash insurance PZU will reimburse the insured person for cash stolen or lost during their travel
9. unfortunate accident insurance PZU will pay out compensation if due to an accident during their travel the insured insured person has suffered: a permanent health impairment in the form of blindness or limb loss, permanent incapacity for work or death
10. civil liability in private life PZU will pay out compensation to the insured person if they caused a personal or property damage to a third party during their travel abroad
11. legal costs insurance PZU will cover or reimburse the costs incurred by the insured person on fees of a lawyer retained by the insured person abroad, costs of legal opinions incurred to protect the legitimate interests of the insured person relating to private life activities while travelling outside of Poland, in connection with the insured person pursuing their own compensation claims for: tortious acts and personal injuries, health impairment, illness or medical condition for which third parties are liable.

The certificate that the customer receives is also an accounting document within the meaning of Article 21(1) of the Accounting Act.

The document is sent to the email address specified at the time of entering into an insurance contract. You should check the SPAM folder first. Depending on the option you have purchased:

• travel cancellation insurance – cover applies from the day following the execution of the insurance contract, but not earlier than from the day following the payment of the insurance premium until the commencement of the trip,
• travel insurance – coverage begins at the time when the trip begins in Poland, i.e. the insured person ultimately leaves home in order to go directly on the trip, but not earlier than from the day following the execution of the insurance contract and payment of the premium, and continues until the end of the insurance period specified in the certificate, but not later than until the insured person returns home or to a medical facility in Poland.

Travel cancellation due to a pregnancy complication is covered if it has been diagnosed by an obstetrician and evidenced by a medical certificate stating that the trip must be cancelled.
