Planning to travel with weapons or ammunition? Please remember to register such transport at least 48 hours before departure – at a LOT Polish Airlines sales office, with LOT agents, or through the LOT Contact Center.
Transporting weapons on board
Only weapons intended for hunting or sporting purposes are accepted for carriage, including:
- shotguns,
- pistols and revolvers,
- sporting and hunting rifles,
- biathlon rifles.
Transporting ammunition on board
- You can carry up to 5 kg gross of ammunition per person, including its case.
- A separate handling fee applies to each package of ammunition.
- Ammunition must be properly secured to prevent accidental activation of the primer.
Transporting non-firearm weapons on board
Bladed weapons, bows, crossbows, paintball and airsoft equipment, fencing equipment and similar items are transported as special equipment in accordance with the rules for transporting sports equipment. For detailed information, see the Sports equipment page.
How to prepare your weapon for travel
Before your journey:
- make sure your weapon is unloaded,
- pack it in a rigid, lockable and properly secured case,
- prepare the required permits and licences,
- check the regulations in your departure, destination and transit countries.
At the airport, declare your weapon at the check-in desk and during security screening.
Please have your:
- identification document,
- boarding pass,
- weapon licence and permit,
- any additional documents required in the relevant country ready for inspection.
Transporting weapons to other countries
Regulations for transporting weapons and ammunition may vary by country. Please contact us before your trip to confirm that transportation to your chosen destination is allowed and complies with local regulations.
Additionally:
- Transporting weapons to and from the United Kingdom is currently not possible.
- If you want to transport weapons to Saudi Arabia, please contact the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for more information.
- If you wish to transport weapons to Finland, you must first obtain a permit from the Finnish police.
- Weapons and ammunition cannot be transported on flights operated by Electra Airlines.
- The transport of weapons to and from Thailand is strictly regulated and requires prior approval. More information:
