3. Where to spend Easter? In the Czech Republic!

Still thinking where to go abroad for Easter? Head to the Czech Republic, a country where Easter is treated as the... first day of spring! This is quite an original approach, so it's worth taking a closer look. Several Czech customs are associated with the first day of spring - for example, naming the days of Holy Week with colors. So we have Blue Monday, Green Thursday, Holy Friday, and White Saturday. In addition, Czechs take great care of the decor of their homes - on the occasion of Easter they are in the habit of setting up pots of grain, usually wheat, in their interiors. In Czech homes at Easter you can also expect the aromatic smell of freshly baked cake in the shape of a lamb or the so-called Judas, a yeast cake with honey. Easter Monday celebrations are also an interesting tradition - at that time men stroll through the streets with willow bows in their hands and slap females on their feet. Hard to believe? It was once thought that this pastime was supposed to herald youth and health, but today... has been replaced by the custom of pouring water on women! In some localities, of course.

4. Easter idea - a trip to Spain

If you are hesitating where to go for Easter - choose Spain! Easter is the biggest and most respected religious event in the calendar of Spaniards. Many look forward to Semana Santa with longing and treat it as equal to Christmas. No surprise - the celebration is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! On the occasion of Easter, there are solemn processions throughout the country, which follow the streets of cities and towns and are.... spectacular! Although Spain is a deeply religious country, its people are also very lively, and the festivities in their performance are pure joy and energy! Easter celebrations begin with Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) and end on Lunes de Pascua, or Easter Monday. Traditional dishes on the Spanish table, however, are potaje de garbanzos (chickpea dish), huevos de vigilia (hard-boiled egg dish) or potaje de vigilia (fish dish). As you can see, Spaniards are very fond of one-pot dishes! When visiting Spain during Semana Santa, don't forget to try the traditional torrijas, or fried bread with honey and cinnamon - yum! If you are planning a trip for Easter and want to spend the holiday in a bit more cheerful atmosphere, bet on a Spanish fiesta!
